The Crucible® Particle Metallurgy process produces CPM ®3V®, a highly wear-resistant tool steel with the highest resistance to chipping and breaking down. In addition to providing superior wear resistance, high hardness, and thermal stability for coatings, CPM® 3V® delivers impact toughness that is higher than A2, D2, Cru-Wear®, or CPM® M4, approaching the values of S7 and other shock resistant grades. CPM® 3V®, which is designed to be utilized at HRC 58–60, can take the place of high alloy tool steels in wear situations where there are perennial problems with tool breakage and chipping.

Compared with steels made using traditional methods, the CPM® process yields extremely uniform, premium steel with greater dimensional stability, grindability, and toughness.

Stamping or forming tools, punches and dies, powder compaction tooling, blanking dies, industrial knives and slitters, shear blades, fine blanking tools, scrap choppers, cold heading tooling, rolls, and plastic injection feeder screws and tips are among the common applications for CPM 3V.
